God is Faithful, We are Hopeful

New lyrics to an Advent hymn by Greg Asimakoupoulos

God is faithful. We are hopeful.
Glancing back, we gaze ahead.
Faith is nourished by our memories
of the ways that God has led.
What He’s promised gives assurance.
Keeping calm, we carry on.
Though tomorrow calls for trusting,
hope’s renewed with each new dawn.

God is faithful. We are hopeful.
Answered prayer inspires praise.
Memories of how He’s helped us
nurtures hope for future days.
Recognition of God’s blessings
is the means to trust Him more
as we face what finds us fearful
of uncertainties in store.

God is faithful. We are hopeful.
Looking unto Christ alone,
we can live with joyful courage
based on what the past has shown.
Daily mercies new each morning.
Grace abundant. Hope renewed.
God is faithful. We are hopeful
for His promises are true.

tune: Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee

The Landscape of Thanksgiving

A watercolor painting of a typical drab autumn afternoon

The landscape of Thanksgiving
is a picture of God’s faithfulness
painted from the palette
of our imperfect situations.

Like those times we feel stretched like a canvas,
have a brush with disaster,
are the victim of a stroke of misfortune,
or feel unjustly framed.

At such times
in spite of how we may feel,
the Master Artist is still at his easel.

Much to our amazement,
He uses paints we don’t really care for
to portray His grace
against the backdrop of His glory.

Amid the blustery winds and gray slush
of our wintry world of woes,
the Creator colors our lives
with the brilliance of His steadfast love
and daily mercies.

Great is His faithfulness!

Journeys of Paul

I’m thrilled to share some exciting news! My seminary classmate Marlon Sandlin and I will be leading a special Journeys of Paul Cruise aboard the luxurious Celebrity Equinox, sailing September 11–23, 2026—and we would be absolutely delighted if you could join us.

This unforgettable voyage begins in Barcelona and ends in Rome, with stops in Valletta (Malta), Athens, Kusadasi (Ephesus), Santorini, Mykonos, Olympia, and Rome. Optional pre-cruise and post-cruise tours are available, including three days in beautiful Barcelona and an extended stay in Rome to explore the Vatican Library, St. Peter’s Basilica, the Sistine Chapel, and more.

Throughout the journey, we’ll explore key locations central to the ministry of the Apostle Paul—places where he preached, taught, and helped establish the early Christian Church. It promises to be a meaningful and enriching experience.

If you would like to view the full brochure with all the details, email my co-host Marlon Sandlin at msandlin@cruiseplanners.com.

I truly hope you’ll consider joining us. Feel free to reach out with any questions—and please feel free to share this invitation with friends or family who might be interested.

Warmly,
Greg Asimakoupoulos

A Tribute to Our Veterans

World War 2 Veterans are a vanishing breed

With uniform allegiance
nephews served their Uncle Sam.
And nieces, too, responded to His call.
In war and peace time posts each one
missed loved ones far away
while they took oaths prepared to give their all.

These veterans are a special breed.
The risks they took were great.
But their service wasn’t always met with thanks.
While some lost limbs and some lost lives,
still others live half dead
from mental wounds they didn’t get in tanks.

To those who served in World War 2,
Korea, Vietnam,
the Persian Gulf and in Afghanistan,
I will salute as you pass by
in Veterans Day parades.
Through what you did, I’m FREE,
Amer-I-CAN!

All Saints Sunday Homework

Cemeteries are holy ground where seeds of love are sown

You took the time to hand out treats
to pintsize bandits on the street
who rang your bell last Friday night.
It’s what you do each year.

But then come Sunday, did you list
the names of those you dearly miss
who left us through the door of death
within the past twelve months?

There’s Halloween and All Saints Day.
We know the first, but dare I say
we often overlook  the next
and fail to pay our dues.

It’s not too late. There still is time
to make a list. There’s yours and mine.
And thank the Lord for those we’ve lost
who we won’t e’er forget.

Peace to their memory!
