The Queen of Country died today
and I am lost for words.
I need her Majesty to pen my thoughts.
Her gift at writing lyrics
(and then singing what she wrote)
leaves a legacy that eighty years hath wrought.
She grieved when Carl’s heart went still
and something in her died.
But Queen Dolly reigned with dignity and grace.
She served her subjects with a smile
and called on God for help
while reaching for her gitbox in its case.
In Dollywood the skies are gray.
The Grand Ole Opry’s dark.
The Kingdom of CM is clothed in black.
She sang she’d always love us
and we confessed the same.
The love she freely gave us we give back.
Peace to her memory!
