When will the craziness stop?

A day associated with love
became a day defined by hate
as a gun-loving teenager pulled the trigger
on his fascination with fame.

A day for hearts and roses
became a day when the brokenhearted
deposited flowers in a make-shift shrine
at a Florida high school.

A day of learning
became a day of dying
for students who would never have the opportunity
to complete their homework.

A day when Christians
were somberly reminded at church
that “you are dust and to dust you shall return”
became a day when we were shockingly reminded
how fragile and fleeting life really is.
