The candidates continue to jockey for position
As they jockey for position
with the finish months away,
Hillary and all her rivals
hold the reins.
It’s a horse race without equal.
First-time riders and old jocks
and a muddy track where what’s slung
thwarts their aim.
It’s a derby for Kentucky
and the other forty-nine
handicapped by key endorsements
in the stands.
There are wagers on the outcome.
But unlike the Preakness Stakes,
those who ride don’t make the difference.
It’s the fans.
So it’s up to us to track with
those who love to dig up dirt
while they’re racing for the White House
on their steeds.
We must study what they stand for.
We must watch them all debate.
After all, we will determine
who succeeds.
